The Nordic Arena is a Norwegian domain

Since the first Tour de Ski in Toblach in 2010, the ski hunters from the far north have achieved eleven victories, ten second places and twelve third places. The dominance has been particularly impressive in the last two years: the Norwegians were able to win six of eight races. Nothing follows the Norwegian dominance for a long time: Poland (4 wins / 2 second places / 2 third places), Switzerland (2 / 2 / 4) or Russia (2 / 2 / 1) do not come close to Norway's success.

It is therefore not surprising that a Norwegian woman is the most successful athlete in Toblach. Marit Bjørgen, six-time Olympic champion, won five races in Alta Pusteria. The Pole Justyna Kowalczyk is almost as successful: although she was “only” on the highest podium in four races, she also took home two second and two third places. Both athletes are not taking part in Toblach this year.

Among men, Petter Northug, a Norwegian, is also the most successful cross-country skier. After winning the first Toblach race at the Tour de Ski in 2010, he was on the highest podium place twice more and also took three second and two third places. Northug will not be there on January 6th. Dario Cologna is very much there: the Swiss suits the Nordic Arena; after all, he won twice and also made it to the podium six times.

Last year there were two premiere winners in Toblach: Finn Hagen Krogh (Norway) prevailed in the men's skating competition, while the American Jessica Diggins caused a big surprise in the women's competition with her first World Cup victory.

The Tour de Ski will stop in Dobbiaco on January 6th. The program includes a skating competition for women (5 km) and men (10 km). A week later, the cross-country skiing elite will come to Toblach again as part of the World Cup, but this time they will compete in an individual and a team sprint.
