Among the men, the Norwegian Martin Johnsrud Sundby comes to Alta Pusteria as the overall leader. After the first four stages, the Scandinavian had a total time of 48.13,6:35 minutes. “I’m looking forward to the next stages, especially the Cortina-Toblach race. I feel in top shape and will give everything in the XNUMX-kilometer pursuit race,” said Martin Johnsrud Sundby before the Tour de Ski classic in South Tyrol.

Sundby's lead over second overall Calle Halfvarsson (Sweden) is 31,7 seconds. Canadian Alex Harvey is third, 35,3 seconds behind, while Petter Northug (Norway) has lost 37,3 seconds to his compatriot Johnsrud. Ilia Chernousov (Russia/+43,2) and the Kazakh Alexey Poltoranin (+53,4), who won the last stage in Lenzerheide, have also lost less than a minute to the overall leader.

The best “Azzurro” in the overall ranking after four stages is Giorgio Di Centa in 35th place (+2.11,9), while Dietmar Nöckler, the best South Tyrolean, is in 47th place (+2.36,1). The ailing Nöckler and his South Tyrolean compatriot David Hofer could drop out of the Tour de Ski after the stage in Toblach, while Thomas Moriggl will also tackle the two sections in Fiemme Valley.

The Italian team would like to make a leap forward in the overall classification at the home races. The “Azzurri” will have their first appearance in front of their own audience on Friday. The 91 cross-country skiers remaining in the field will fight for the stage victory from 12.15:35 p.m. on a 10.30-kilometer route from Cortina to Dobbiaco. The women will run three loops around the “Nordic Arena” at 15:XNUMX a.m. over a total distance of XNUMX kilometers.

A Norwegian is also the overall leader among the women, namely Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen. She leads by 35,4 seconds over her compatriot Ingvild Flugstad Oestberg, whose start in Toblach is questionable, and by 36,8 seconds ahead of the Finn Kerttu Niskanen. “I think about the Tour de Ski from stage to stage. For me the Tour de Ski is very important, also with a view to qualifying for the Olympic Games. As far as the overall victory is concerned, I see Therese Johaug as the favorite,” explained Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen before the stage in Hochpustertal.

The best overall ranking from the Italian team is Marina Piller in 27th place, 2.49,2:4.06,3 minutes behind, while the only South Tyrolean in the field - Debora Agreiter from Val Badia - is ranked 52nd, around four minutes behind (+63:XNUMX).
