Dietmar Nöckler can't get going in Finland

In the driving snow in Ruka, the 29-year-old couldn't find the right recipe, and in the end Nöckler finished behind in 78th place. Federico Pellegrino was the only “Azzurro” to qualify for the final of the top 30, he finished the qualification in fourth place.

In the women's category, the only “Azzurra” Ilaria Debertolis finished the qualification in 67th position and therefore did not make it to the final. The Swedish Stina Nilsson won the classic sprint in Ruka, ahead of Sadie Bjornsen from the USA and Yulia Belorukova from Russia.

The men's victory went to the Norwegian Johannes Klaebo, ahead of his teammate Paal Goldberg. Calle Halfvarsson from Sweden came third. Federico Pellegrino came fifth behind Ristomatti Hakola from Finland.

The 10km classic race for women and the 15km classic race for men follow in Ruka on Saturday.

In Livigno, the “Azzurri” held a classic sprint to determine the starting positions for the next World Cup races. Stefan Zelger from Bolzano emerged as the winner and secured a ticket for the upcoming World Cup in Norway, as did Greta Laurent, Lucia Scardoni and Enrico Nizzi.

The starting signal for the cross-country skiing World Cup has been given in Ruka in Finland. In the classic style sprint on Friday, Dietmar Nöckler from Pfalzen was unable to qualify for the final.
