Doping trial: Walter Mayer retracts his statements

The statements were made under pressure from the police officers because they told him that he would only be allowed to go home if he admitted something, Mayer explained on Thursday at the continuation of the doping trial, which was postponed in February. He also confessed to having taken performance-enhancing Epo and growth hormone. However, he only bought the funds for his own use and never passed them on to anyone. The former coach is accused of having supported athletes in doping from 2012 to 2019 and of having passed on doping substances, including growth hormone, testosterone and human albumin, to athletes. He is also said to have practiced blood doping on athletes and thus contributed to their sports fraud. The long-time coach of the Austrian cross-country skiing gold relay at the 1999 World Championships has already been involved in several doping scandals - starting with the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
