A cross-country skiing spectacle with South Tyrolean victories

The popular South Tyrolean ski marathon in Casies once again experienced a memorable edition, with lots of emotions, intense and exciting. As always, the start in the village center of St. Martin Casies was spectacular. During the first climb to St. Magdalena Gsies, the various groups, both top runners and amateurs, were still together. Of course, the top athletes soon took the lead and formed a large group. The 30 and 42 kilometer routes that led back to St. Martin Casies were tackled at high speed, with little room for tactics.

At the finish, the spectators cheered for Dietmar Nöckler, who won the 42 km race. It was his third victory in the Gsieser Tal Run after 2016 (42km classic) and 2009 (30km freestyle). In the marathon distance there was an exciting photo finish for second place, Mattia Armellini from Sondale beat Francesco Ferrari from Modena just as the midday siren sounded.

Michaela Patscheider from Burgeis won the 30 km race, ahead of the German Nadine Hermann and the Swede Maja Eriksson. In the 42 km race, the Swede Malin Börjesjö triumphed ahead of the German Franziska Müller, the three-time winner of the Gsieser Tal Run. Third place went to Chiara Caminada from Team Robinson Trentino. It continues on Sunday The eagerly awaited “King of the Mountain by Hotel Quelle”, the newly launched mountain trophy, went to Mauro Brigadoi and Julia Evangelist. The Sportful and Alperia sprint finishes were won by Patscheider and Armellini.

On Sunday we will cover the same distances of 30 and 42 km again, but in free technique. Then probably with new protagonists, even if Dietmar Nöckler will try to achieve another success.
