A newcomer steals the show from superstar Johaug

Frida Karlsson, born in 1999, is the big one celebrated after the women's 10-kilometer classic race. The Swede, who is competing in her first World Championships in Seefeld, sensationally secured the silver medal.

While Johaug's training partner Östberg was happy about the bronze medal, local hero Theresa Stadlober was also beaming. Until a few hours before the start, the ailing Austrian knew that her Lapsus at the 2018 Olympics had become famous, not whether it was enough to get started. In the end, Stadlober can be happy about 8th place.

The best Italian at the finish was 21-year-old Anna Comarella (28th place), followed by Lucia Scardoni (34th) and Caterina Ganz (40th). There was no South Tyrolean at the start.
