FIS open for women's tour and second World Cup decision

Cologne (SID) The World Ski Association FIS sees good conditions for the early introduction of a Four Hills Tournament for women. “The will is there,” said Secretary General Sarah Lewis to Deutschlandfunk. At the same time, Lewis gave the ski jumpers the prospect of an additional World Cup decision on the large hill. According to Lewis, questions still need to be clarified for a women's tour, such as finding suitable dates or the additional beds required in the four locations. There had recently been movement in the fight for a women's tour; tour president Johann Pichler spoke in January of a possible premiere in "two or three years". The four organizers want to discuss the future of the tour in Innsbruck on April 15th. Meanwhile, the World Cup program is becoming more concrete, which could also include women's jumping on the large hill in the future. The FIS Congress will vote on a corresponding proposal in May. “We have seen that sporting development has come so far that the level in the World Cup is very high,” said Lewis. Since 2009, women have been jumping for medals at the Nordic World Championships, but unlike men, only from the normal hill. The next World Cup will take place in Oberstdorf in 2021. Women will also be competing there in the Nordic combined for the first time.
