Francesco Ferrari is the winner of the 41st Pustertal Ski Marathon

Francesoc Ferrari is the winner of the 41st edition of the Pustertal Ski Marathon, the oldest cross-country race in South Tyrol, which took place on Saturday, January 13th over 60 km in the classic technique. The start was in Braies and the run went via Niederdorf, Dobbiaco to the Drei Zinnen Blick and Innichen to Sexten. Over 400 athletes from 15 nations took part.

Born in 1994, “Emiliano” beat the Russian Evgenij Demtev in an exciting sprint. Simone Bosin came third. Until the fortieth kilometer, the leading group was led by Riccardo Mich before the later three first-place finishers took command.

“A nice victory for me as a newcomer to cross-country skiing,” said the winner, ex Fiamme Oro and now part of Team Robinson. “I tried to present our team well, but I didn't expect a win. I lost touch on the last difficult climb in Fischleintal, but then I managed to catch up again and finally managed to make it to the end.”

Familiar face at the top among the women

The women's race was won by Franziska Müller, who won the Pustertal Ski Marathon in 2016.

“After 2014, we finally managed to hold the race over the entire 60km,” said Alfred Prenn, President of the organizing committee. “We have worked hard to offer the athletes the best, a work that is only possible through the work of more than 150 volunteers.”

Three have been there since the beginning

The three most loyal people who had been there since the first edition were there again. Giorgio Peretti from Cortina d'Ampezzo, Giancarlo Vettorel from Feltre and Karl Walder from Dobbiaco.

The fastest of these three was local hero Karl Walder, born in 1954, who finished the race in a time of 3h 29'27''. “A race like this gives me motivation to continue working in this sport. A lot has changed in 40 years, but the passion for cross-country skiing always remains the same.”

The oldest athlete in the 41st Pustertal Ski Marathon started at the proud age of 78, born in 1940.

The Predazzan defeated the Russian Olympic champion from Turin 2006 Evgenij Demntiev. The German Franziska Müller won the women's event. More than 400 athletes took part in the 41st edition.
