Johaug dominates at the start of the season

In the first distance race of the World Cup season, the 32-year-old Johaug won the 10 km in classic style in Kuusamo, Finland, 21,8 seconds ahead of the Swede Frida Karlsson and celebrated her 11th victory in the last 12 starts outside of sprint competitions. For Johaug it was the 74th World Cup victory, ahead of her only her great compatriot Marit Björgen (114). At the World Championships in Oberstdorf (February 23rd to March 7th), ten-time world champion Johaug, whose career was temporarily halted by a doping ban from 2017, could win big again. There was nothing to gain for the Azzurre. Lucia Scardoni ended up in 1.48th place, 35 minutes behind the victorious Johaug.
