Kershaw and Majdic win sprint races in Toblach

In the men's race, Dario Cologna (Switzerland), Devon Kershaw (Canada) and Marcus Hellner (Sweden), the top three in the Tour de Ski overall ranking, reached the final. Kershaw was ahead there. The 28-year-old student beat Cologna and the Norwegian Petter Northug to their places. The South Tyrolean David Hofer (St. Christina), who was the only “Azzurro” to make it to the semi-finals, also knew how to convince.

“It's amazing, I didn't expect to win. Of course I benefited from Emil Joensson not being at the start today. And my skis were damn fast, so my thanks go to my team. I think from race to race and will just try to do the best,” said surprise winner Devon Kershaw about his success in the Nordic Arena in Toblach. There have been no significant changes in the overall Tour de Ski rankings, as Cologna continues to lead ahead of Kershaw and Hellner. In the women's race, Petra Majdic from Slovenia won the 1,3 kilometer sprint race. She relegated the two Italians Arianna Follis and Magda Genuin to their places. Follis and Majdic delivered an exciting finish, which the 31-year-old from Brinje won. Majdic, who crossed the finish line first in every knockout duel and also set the best time in qualifying, was already at the front in the Oberstdorf sprint. The leader of the Tour de Ski Justyna Kowalczyk (Poland) had already surprisingly failed in the quarter-finals.

"I'm very satisfied. I have a lot of self-confidence now. I would like to thank my team and my coach, who made sure that I got back on track. The path back to the top was very rocky. But now I’m back,” said winner Petra Majdic, who finished second in the overall Tour de Ski rankings. Arianna Follis also gained ground and is now in fourth position.

Many spectators were in the Nordica Arena in Dobbiaco today, including numerous celebrities, such as Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and her husband Daniel, CONI President Gianni Petrucci and FISI President Giovanni Morzenti.

The Tour de Ski continues on Thursday with the two individual races from Cortina to Dobbiaco.

Kershaw and Majdic win sprint races in Toblach

Canadian Devon Kershaw and Slovenian Petra Majdic won the sprint races that took place as part of the Tour de Ski on Wednesday in Dobbiaco.
