Klaebo and Neprjajewa close to overall victory – De Fabiani unlucky

Klaebo celebrated his fourth stage victory in the fifth race in the classic mass start over 15 kilometers in Tesero in Val di Fiemme on Monday. The 25-year-old triumphed confidently ahead of the Finn Iivo Niskanen (+20,8 seconds) and the Russian Alexey Tscherwotkin (+23,7). The Russian defending champion Alexander Bolshunov continued to lose ground. He didn't get higher than 5th place (+27,9).

Klaebo is heading for his second tour triumph. He had already won the stage race in 2019. In the overall standings he is now exactly 2 minutes ahead of second-placed Bolshunov. The Finnish Niskanen is third before the final, 2.49 minutes behind.

The Aosta native Francesco De Fabiani, who was 5th in the overall ranking before today's race, was unlucky. After just under 2 kilometers he was involved in a crash and lost a lot of time. A ski was also damaged. He ultimately finished the race in 37th place, 2.54:23 minutes behind the victorious Klaebo. The best Azzurro was Maicol Rastelli in 1.56rd place (+13). In the overall standings, De Fabiani is still the Azzurri's best starter, but fell back to 5.30th place (+XNUMX).

Natalia Nepryajewa made another statement among the women. The Russian won after 10 kilometers by 3,7 seconds ahead of the Norwegian Heidi Weng. Third place went to the Finn Krista Parmakoski (+3). Defending Tour champion Jessica Diggins didn't get past 1.19th place on Monday and is already 13 minutes behind sixth place in the Tour standings. Stadlober is in 1.42th place (+8), the best Azzurra in the overall ranking is Ganz in 1.59th place (+20).
