Kläbo and Weng bring the overall World Cup to Norway – Nöckler misses out on points

Young star Kläbo (21) finished 25th on the three-day mini-tour in Falun to become the youngest runner in history to win the big crystal ball. In the women's race, Weng defended his title with an 18th place.

The victories at the season finale in Sweden went to the Russian Alexander Bolshunow and superstar Marit Björgen (Norway). “The last few races felt very tough again. I’m glad it’s done now,” said Kläbo, who won ten races and the Ruka Triple last season.

The three-time Olympic champion replaced the Swede Gunde Svan as age record holder, who triumphed in 1983/84 at the age of 22. The best German in Falun was Thomas Bing (Dermbach) in 35th place.

Things got exciting for the women on Sunday: While Björgen ran to her 114th World Cup victory, Weng managed to reach the finish line over 10 km, only 40 points ahead of the American Jessica Diggins. “I’m relieved that it was still enough. Every race since the Olympics has been bad,” said Weng, who was the first woman to defend her title since Justyna Kowalczyk (2011/12 and 2012/13).

Nöckler finished in 46th place Dietmar Nöckler from Bruneck was the only South Tyrolean at the start of the World Cup final. However, there was nothing for him to get. After his 38th place in the classic race on Saturday, he also had to be content with a place outside the points on Sunday. Nöckler finished the freestyle race over 15 kilometers in 46th place.

This marks the end of a mediocre World Cup season for him. Especially in the individual races, things didn't really want to break this year. The man from Bruneck was able to score a total of 31 points and ended up in 92nd place in the overall ranking.

Nöckler achieved the highlight of the season in January at the team sprint in Dresden. Together with Federico Pellegrino from Aosta, he won the second World Cup victory in his career.

The Norwegians Johannes Hösflöt Kläbo and Heidi Weng won the overall World Cup in cross-country skiing. The victories at the season finale went to Alexander Bolschunow and Marit Björgen. Didi Nöckler from Bruneck took 46th place.
