Krogh wins in Toblach, but Sundby runs away

The Norwegian cross-country skiing stars were already the hot candidates for victory before the race began. However, Krog stole the show from his favorite compatriots Sundby and Northug. The 25-year-old offered a flawless performance on the 10-kilometer course, setting unrivaled standards, especially in the final part, and ultimately stopped the timekeeping at 22:07,8 minutes. His third podium finish in the current Tour de Ski and the sixth World Cup victory of his career were perfect.

Krogh's final sprint thwarted even Sundby's plans. The overall World Cup leader was unbeaten in this discipline for four races. Sundby crossed the finish line 3,6 seconds behind, but he still had plenty to be happy about in the finish area. His lead in the tour ranking grew to around one and a half seconds. His worst opponents, his compatriot and long-term rival Northug and the Russian Sergey Ustiugov, lost more time in Toblach. Ustiugov crossed the finish line in fourth place behind Frenchman Maurice Manificat, while Northug even had to settle for 15th place.

Nöckler and Clara beyond the top 30

Francesco De Fabiani was once again the best Italian. The aspiring athlete from the Aosta Valley finished in 47,9nd place, 22 seconds behind, and is now in eleventh place in the overall ranking. However, the two local heroes from Pustertal only played a supporting role: Dietmar Nöckler recorded 33rd place, Roland Clara did not get past 45th place.
