Cross-country skier Dietmar Nöckler is already excited for his home race - INTERVIEW

Dietmar, how do you rate your season so far? Dietmar Nöckler: The start of the season wasn't particularly good. The expectations weren't particularly high because I knew that I wasn't yet in the shape I wanted. I was pretty happy with how I did in Kuusamo. I showed a decent performance there, even though I'm not in top shape yet.

You are among those called up for Dobbiaco, what expectations do you have going into this race? The race on Sunday also has a new feature... Nöckler: I skipped last week's races in order to best prepare for the home race in Toblach. I hope that this training session has brought me a lot and that I can start with good form. My main focus is certainly on the skating race on Saturday in order to have a good starting point for the pursuit on Sunday. I really like this new format, but it will be very important not to waste too much time on Saturday.

How do you rate the new section of the route? Have you tested it yet? What are the difficulties on the new route? Nöckler: The new route has two really strenuous and long climbs that have an altitude difference of 180 meters over 5 km. The organizer in Toblach did an excellent job and I am sure that all the athletes appreciate that too. These days I also took the opportunity to train on this route.

How do you like competing in the Nordic Arena in Toblach? Are you the only South Tyrolean who will be visible? Nöckler: Yes, it's always nice to walk in front of your own front door. The stadium is very beautiful and offers everything a cross-country skier needs. The trails are always in optimal condition and in addition to the race track, there are also many other kilometers of trails that have artificial snow.

What are your future prospects? Do you think that the weekend in Dobbiaco will suit your racing abilities? Could it even be that a successful weekend could be the spark for a very good season? Nöckler: Toblach is the first highlight of the season for me and I hope that I leave Dobbiaco with a good result, especially with a view to the Tour de Ski, which is about to begin, but also with a view to the rest of the season.

Where do you always get the motivation to keep the tension high throughout an entire season? Nöckler: My life is sport. Thanks to the State Police sports group, I have the opportunity to pursue my passion as a professional. In the few moments when motivation is lacking, I think about the goals I have set for myself. This helps me to always give 100%, even on days when I lack motivation.

It has snowed a lot in the Nordic Arena in the last few days. The women's 11 km skating race will take place on Saturday at 10 a.m. The men, also in skating, will start at 13.30:15 p.m. You have to complete 10 km. On Sunday the pursuit is on the program in classic style. The women complete another 15 km, the men another XNUMX km.

The race will also be broadcast live in Italy. The races can be seen either on Rai Sport or Eurosport.
