Cross-Country Skiing World Cup again a great success in Toblach

The athletes' assessment of the races on Saturday in skating and the pursuit on Sunday in classic style was very positive. The cross-country skiers were particularly enthusiastic about the pursuit, as this format is rarely run in the cross-country skiing World Cup. The World Cup stage in Dobbiaco always guarantees quality and competence in cross-country skiing: “Our organizing committee is a group of professionals and it always gives us great pleasure when the athletes and spectators take note of this and praise us. The Nordic Arena is now very famous in cross-country skiing, especially because of its spectacular climbs. The only shortcoming that still needs to be addressed is the involvement of the audience. This year we didn't want to spend too much money, especially with the Tour de Ski 2018/19 in mind. Dobbiaco will host the start of this racing series in December 2018. We will also be organizing a big party because next year we will also be celebrating 10 years of the Cross-Country Skiing World Cup in Toblach. We were also very happy to receive congratulations on the successful World Cup weekend from FISI President Flavio Roda. The hosting of international cross-country skiing races seems to be secured in Toblach for a long time: “The future of cross-country skiing will also run on our trails,” says Santer in conclusion, “we hope that Toblach will become the fixed point of the Tour de Ski as the starting stage, like this It is the Fiemme Valley that marks the end of this racing series.

A large part of the credit for the smooth World Cup weekend goes to Nathalie Santer. The ex-biathlete and ex-cross-country skier is also the namesake of the new route: “We were very lucky this year that it snowed heavily shortly before the World Cup weekend. The organizers managed to offer the participants a challenging route: “The route named after me is very demanding, but that is also necessary for hosting a cross-country skiing World Cup event. Otherwise the route would be too easy. We will continue to use this route in the next few years, although we have the opportunity to vary it a little with the route “Saskia” (another daughter of OC boss Herbert Santer). I particularly pushed for the pursuit race because this format was one of my favorites when I was still an active biathlon athlete. The advantage is that spectators who are not cross-country skiing experts immediately understand who the winner is. It is certainly one of the next tasks to make the cross-country skiing World Cup more attractive in order to attract more spectator interest. One way could be the pursuit races, which always promise great battles for position.” On the future: “Planning for the next season will begin shortly, we will all sit down at the table and talk about the future. We are planning a great opening of the Tour de Ski and want to show this show to many local spectators.

Cross-Country Skiing World Cup again a great success in Toblach

The cross-country skiing World Cup races last weekend in Toblach were very well received. The organizing committee with OK boss Herbert Santer is already planning for the Tour de Ski 2018/19. The opening stage will take place in the South Tyrolean town on December 29, 2018.
