The 30-year-old Öberg was often set back by illnesses in her career, but she nevertheless celebrated a World Cup victory in Rybinsk (Russia) in 2015. The woman from Pitea was far from achieving these achievements this winter: she only appeared sporadically in the World Cup and did not get beyond 13th place. To make matters worse, she became infected with the coronavirus at the end of February. “I have never felt so bad and I hope I never have to experience anything like that again,” she told the Swedish daily at the time Expressen .

Ultimately, this long break prompted her to draw a line: “The season was shorter than usual, so I had a lot of time to think. “I just didn’t have the motivation to train four to five hours a day from May to the beginning of November,” says Öberg. But cross-country skiing remains a big part of her life.
