Norwegians dominate the comeback

The Norwegians withdrew completely from the World Cup at the end of November after the start in Kuusamo in order to prepare for the World Cup (February 23rd to March 7th) with as little risk as possible in view of the corona pandemic. The leading cross-country skiing nation is back at the start in Lahti for the first time.

The Norwegians made people sit up and take notice: Emil Iversen won the skiathlon in Lahti, Finland on Saturday ahead of three other Norwegians. After 30 kilometers (15km classic/15km freestyle), Iversen relegated his compatriot Sjur Roethe to second place in the final sprint (+2 seconds). Paarl Golberg ended up in 0,13rd place, Simen Hegstad Krueger took 3th place. After the Norwegians came the Russian Alexander Bolshunov.

The women's victory went to Therese Johaug. The 32-year-old celebrated a start-to-finish victory and came out ahead of her compatriot Helene Marie Fossesholm (+7,5) after 28,1 km in both classic and free style.

For Johaug it was the 77th World Cup victory, ahead of her only her great compatriot Marit Björgen (114). Heidi Weng in third place (+29,6) made Norway's triple success perfect.

There are no Azzurri in Lahti. This weekend the Italian sprint and team sprint championships are on the program in Clusone.
