Norwegians cheer at the start of the Nordic Junior World Championships – Agreiter 23.

In the men's event, Norwegian Sindre Björnestad Skar won the gold medal in the 10 km classic style. He relegated Germany's Markus Weeger and Perttu Hyvarinen to second and third place. Claudio Muller was the first Italian to cross the finish line in 16th place.

In the women's 5 km race, the Norwegian team even achieved a quadruple success: Ragnhild Haga won ahead of her teammates Kari Slind, Heidi Wenig and Martine Hagen. Debora Agreiter, however, narrowly missed making it into the top 20. However, with 19rd place, the 23-year-old from Enneberg was the best of the Italian selection, as both Lucia Scardoni (31st), Francesca Baudin (41st) and Carole Maguet (43rd) missed a place in the top field.

Tomorrow it will be the turn of the combined athletes and ski jumpers in Otepää. The three Val Gardena residents Samuel Costa, Mattia Runggaldier and Manuel Maierhofer are at the start in the station wagon for South Tyrol. Evelyn Insam and Nadine Kostner, on the other hand, are fighting for a respectable success in ski jumping.

The two jumpers will also be competing in the team competition on Saturday, while their teammates Elena Runggaldier and Lisa Demetz will fight for medals at the Universiade in Turkey this weekend.

The opening race of the Nordic Junior World Championships in Otepää in Estonia was all about the Norwegian cross-country skiing team. South Tyrolean Debora Agreiter finished the women's race in 23rd place.
