“Norwegians are crazy about sports”

Hannes Hofer from Sarn has been working for the Swiss company Tridem Sports Ag for almost a year. The sports marketing agency was founded in 2008 and markets the Alpine and Nordic Ski World Championships on behalf of the EBU (European Broadcasting Union).

Hofer and his employees are looking for sponsors for the title fights - explained in a few simple words - and then implement the sponsorship. “We not only ensure that the advertising boards are produced and positioned correctly, but also ensure that the sponsor can set up a stand on site or has a location where they can invite their guests,” says Hofer.

The 27-year-old Sarner was particularly impressed by the atmosphere in Oslo. “It was huge, yesterday there were 50 people along the route and in the stadium for the men's 105.000 kilometer run. It is traditional for people to spend the night in the forest the day before long-distance races. 20.000 people camped on the night from Saturday to Sunday. There was eating, of course there was also a lot of drinking and celebrating. Totally crazy, because who camps in the snow in winter?” smiles the young South Tyrolean.

The sports-loving Sarner is still thrilled - he was a feared striker at FC Sarnthein - when he talks about the fairness of the spectators. “Not a single runner was whistled here, on the contrary, everyone was cheered on and applauded, regardless of whether they were a Norwegian or a Brazilian.”

Hofer describes the award ceremonies in the Medal Plaza in the heart of Oslo as an absolute highlight. “There were 100.000 people there every day, creating a tremendous atmosphere, like at a rock concert. You can’t even imagine something like that unless you’ve seen it yourself.”

The Sarner also only has good words to say about the Norwegian capital, where Hofer spent the last three weeks. Oslo is a beautiful city, the people are nice and helpful, and also extremely enthusiastic about sports. “I would almost say sports crazy, regardless of whether you are a man or a woman. Sport is part of life for Norwegians; they are naturally much more sporty than we are.”

It shouldn't come as a surprise if Hofer made a declaration of love for Oslo on his Facebook profile early this morning. “OSLO I love you,” is the first message on his wall. It goes without saying that Hofer will come back to the Norwegian capital...
