Pellegrino sprints to victory – Nöckler fails in qualifying

Federico Pellegrino confidently won the 1,3 kilometer freestyle sprint at the start of the three-stage tour, the “Lillehammer Triple”. In the final he relegated the Norwegian Emil Iversen and the Canadian Alex Harvey to places 2 and 3. Pellegrino won in an impressive manner and was 47 seconds faster than second-placed Iversen. It was the 12th World Cup victory for the Aosta native.

The Russian Alexander Bolshunow, who won twice at the start in Ruka, had already failed in the quarter-finals. The Norwegian World Cup defending champion Johannes Hösflot Kläbo was eliminated in the semi-finals due to a broken stick.

With Francesco De Fabiani, another “Azzurro” made it to the quarter-finals. However, the 25-year-old, who also comes from the Aosta Valley, fell in the quarter-finals and was eliminated. Ultimately he finished 28th.

Dietmar Nöckler from Bruneck clearly missed qualifying for the quarter-finals of the best 68 in 30th place.

Surprise for the ladies In the women's race, the victory surprisingly went to Sweden's Jonna Sundling. She triumphed ahead of her compatriot Stina Nilsson and Sadie Bjornsen from the USA.
