Police sports group celebrates double victory in the relay in Antholz

For the first time this year, the senior and youth relays took place at the same time. In the men's first change, Dietmar Nöckler from Puster from the police sports group was ahead of the army sports group and the carabinieri, while South Tyrolean Stefan Zelger ran surprisingly well and handed over in fourth place. Giorgio di Centa then caught up a lot for the Carabinieri and switched to the police sports group, only seven seconds behind. The South Tyrolean Michael Hellweger, however, only ran 15th part time and slipped back to 7th place. The fastest runner at the third change was Roland Clara from Reischach from the Finanzwache, ahead of Carabiniere Florian Kostner from Val Gardena. Florian Cappello from Vinschger held 7th place for the South Tyrol team. At the last change, Federico Pellegrino from the police sports group and Val Gardena's David Hofer from the Carabinieri were tied, while Clara sent Alessandro Pittin onto the trail, 19 seconds behind. The Nordic combined athlete, currently in impressive form, caught up with the leading duo. Fabio Pasini from the army sports group also caught up and so there was an extremely exciting finish, which Pellegrino won in the sprint with just 1,7 seconds ahead of Pittin and 31,7 seconds over Hofer for the police sports group. The youth title went to Aosta with Perruquet, Abram, Perron and Chanloung, ahead of Alpi Centrali (Speroni, Romani, Alex and Matteo Andreola), while South Tyrol won bronze with Zelger, Hellweger, Cappello and Sonny Stauder.

The police sports group also dominates among the women The women's relay also clearly went to the police sports group with Giulia Stuerz, Sara Pellegrini and Ilaria Debertolis, who finished 38,5 seconds ahead of the finance guard (Di Sopra, Baudin and Scarponi) and 39,7 seconds ahead of the forest guard (Comarella, De Martin Topranin e Piller). The Carabinieri, with Debora Agreiter from Val Badia, had to settle for 4th place, almost three minutes behind. The new Italian youth champions are Ilenia Defrancesco, Monica Tomasini and Caterina Ganz from Trento. Silver goes to Veneto (Erica Antoniol, Eleonora Prigol and Chiara De Zolt Ponte), bronze to Alpi Centrali (Martina Bellini, Jael Compagnoni and Elisa Carrara). The South Tyroleans Lea Demez, Rebecca Walder and Valentina Kostner came in 10th place.

The skiathlon title fights continue on Tuesday The program of the Italian Championships in Antholz continues on Tuesday with the skiathlon. The title fights will conclude on Thursday with the women's 30 km race and the men's 50 km freestyle race.
