Tyrolean daily newspaper: “The World Ski Championships in a doping stranglehold. The 2017 federal anti-doping law does not appear to be enough to deter at-risk athletes. The moral and legal hurdles seem low enough to continue jumping over. Austria does not have to bear the penitent role alone - an international doping ring was uncovered. But the belief in the immaculateness of the sport cannot keep up with the images of untouched winter landscapes. It's not a trail of blood that runs through Austria's sport. But one of devastation.”

Courier: “It couldn’t be stupider. In Seefeld, two guys managed to kick the already badly battered Austrian cross-country skiing sport into absolute insignificance, perhaps for all eternity. Not only that, all winter sports will also suffer. And an event that, until Wednesday, was considered a very successful, even festive advertisement. Seefeld 2019? People will remember it. To a sunny place that has written another dark chapter in Austrian sports history.”

Salzburg News: “The home World Cup is sinking into the doping swamp. The consequences of the recurring doping cases involving corrupt athletes are dramatic for sport itself. The public's trust in top sporting performance and records is being lost. Mistrust takes hold. That is the maximum penalty. The two caught ÖSV athletes may have dealt the death knell to the local cross-country skiing sport.”

Krone newspaper: “The winter fairy tale in Seefeld came to an abrupt end. Association President Peter Schröcksnadel naturally deeply abhors any form of doping or the use of other unfair aids. However, the sporting leadership cannot completely wash its hands of the matter. Because in all these years they haven’t managed or wanted to get rid of the long shadow of doping.”
