Sensational: Roland Clara comes fifth in the Tour de Ski

Roland Clara showed his class in the last race of this year's Tour de Ski. In the nine kilometer long ascent race to the Cermis, the Reischacher took second place behind the Czech Lukas Bauer. The 28-year-old from Pusteria thus improved to an excellent fifth place in the overall ranking - among the world's best. Clara was only 120 seconds short of third place after around 22,4 kilometers.

"I'm overjoyed. Nothing more was possible with the best will in the world. Before the Tour de Ski I changed skis and raced past the podium twice. It's a great feeling to be running among the best in the world," said Clara at the finish.

Thomas Moriggl from Schlinig also made it into the top 18 in 20th place. In the final promotion race, Moriggl also made it into the top ten and came eighth. Clara improved to 14th place in the overall ranking.

The Swiss Olympic champion Dario Cologna took victory in the most important stage race for cross-country skiers. The Swiss needed 4:28.02,0 hours for the eight stages in Oberstdorf, Oberhof, Toblach/Cortina and in Fiemme Valley.

The Norwegian Petter Northug came second, 27,3 seconds behind Cologna at the finish, while last year's winner Lukas Bauer from the Czech Republic came third this year (+1.44,1 minutes).

The Polish Justyna Kowalczyk won among the women. In the overall ranking, she relegated the Norwegian There Johaug and the two “Azzurre” Marianna Longa and Arianna Follis to places.
