Frida Karlsson has 35.000 followers on Instagram. And after hers sensational appearance in the 10-kilometer classic race At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Seefeld a few more are likely to be added in the next few hours. The 19-year-old Swede had long been a star on the social network. Now she is also in the cross-country skiing circus.

World Cup debut a week ago, now vice world champion Just a week ago Karlsson celebrated her World Cup debut in Cogne. Although she had already won the Junior World Championship title, it must have already become clear to her at the press conference after the race that a World Championship medal among the “big ones” changes a lot in one fell swoop.

Journalists from all over the world (but especially the many Swedes, of course) pounced like crazy on the sensational runner-up. At first almost shy, Karlsson really blossomed as the conversations progressed. Of course, Therese Johaug and Ingvild Flugstad Östberg were also interviewed. But the Norwegians didn't even come close to the state of siege around Karlsson. It's usually the other way around. Johaug in particular is considered a glamor girl, someone who likes to be in the spotlight a lot - and knows how to use it perfectly. For example, after her doping ban became known (apparently she had a “fake” lip balm on the Seiser Alm used) some tearful performances by the 30-year-old. But on this Tuesday afternoon, despite her second gold medal at the World Championships in Seefeld, she was somewhat overshadowed. At least that's how it seemed to me. On the train with the state governor Nothing overshadowed Günther Platter, but his arrival in the World Cup venue still attracted a lot of hype. Like the day before, on Tuesday I took the ÖBB train from Reith, where my World Cup quarters are, to Seefeld, just one stop away. That There was significantly more going on than on Monday , I wasn't surprised, after all it was the rest day at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2019.

But the fact that there were over ten photographers, a lot of police and security guards milling around on the train made me suspicious. Less than half a minute later I knew why: the Tyrolean governor Günther Platter had set off from Innsbruck to Seefeld and by chance I had caught the same train. Nevertheless: Compared to the “morz Casino” around Karlsson, Platter was still lucky.
