South Tyrolean cross-country skiers are ready for Tour de Ski

Herbert Santer's OK team couldn't have wished for better advertising for the Tour de Ski in Toblach. At the last World Cup stage before the Christmas break, Roland Clara made a big impression with his best World Cup result in an individual race and, like Hofer and Agreiter, will start the Tour de Ski on December 29th in Oberhof with a lot of self-confidence.

“This podium was very important for me, but also for the entire team. We train together 300 days a year and if I can do it, my teammates can do it too. This podium is the best way to get us in the mood for the Tour de Ski. It will be difficult because there are a lot of variables coming up. But we have shown that things will improve in the future,” said Roland Clara on Sunday in Canmore after his victory.

After the stage towns of Oberhof and, for the first time, Münstertal in Switzerland, the best cross-country skiers in the world will come to Dobbiaco on January 3rd and 4th as part of the Tour de Ski. In addition to the already mentioned trio Clara, Hofer and Agreiter, Thomas Moriggl and Dietmar Nöckler from the top South Tyrolean cross-country skiers are also taking part. As in the previous year, five local athletes will compete in the most important stage race in the world and thus also the home race in Toblach.

Pursuit race on Thursday, distance race on Friday

The World Cup entourage is now stopping in Hochpustertal for the fourth time. On Thursday, January 3rd, the “classic” from Cortina to Dobbiaco is scheduled for the men, a 35-kilometer pursuit race with a handicap start in the free running technique. The women, on the other hand, have to complete three loops of five kilometers each around the Nordic Arena, where the start and finish are located.

Friday, January 4th, however, will be dedicated to two distance races with individual starts using the classic technique. The men cover five kilometers and the women three kilometers. “Everything is ready for us. The cross-country ski trails are in top condition and cross-country skiers expect ideal conditions,” emphasized OK boss Herbert Santer.

Construction of the snow igloo has already begun

Santer and his team are now in the final phase of the preparatory work in Toblach. “There is still a lot to be done to ensure that the athletes, but also the many coaches, supervisors, media people and, last but not least, the spectators, feel right at home in Toblach. But the many volunteers are very committed,” praised Santer.

The supporting program in Toblach is also impressive. There will be a large snow igloo where the fun will take place on both World Cup days. On Thursday the Bergdiamanten will perform, while on Friday world-famous DJs will heat up the partygoers at the Ö3 Disco. Construction of the igloo has already begun so that it can be put into operation in time for the first day of the competition. “I would be very happy if I could welcome as many cross-country skiing fans as possible to Dobbiaco. “We not only have top sporting achievements to admire, but entertainment is certainly not neglected either,” emphasized Santer in conclusion.
