Toblach-Cortina: Vokuev and Korsgren celebrate

The new route and lots of snow characterized Sunday at the Dobbiaco-Cortina cross-country skiing event. The traditional race did not disappoint this time either. After a complicated organization and several program changes, it was finally thanks to the experience and motivation of the organizers that the athletes were able to complete the race in absolute safety this time, despite the heavy snowfall of the last few days. The surrounding mountains and the snowy landscape also created a unique panorama. The Mameli anthem sung by Sarah Zardini opened the competition day at 8.20:20 a.m. First up were the athletes from the prestigious Visma Ski Classics racing series. A race that was competitive for the women, especially in the first few kilometers. After the “Bonus Sprint” at the Nordic Arena in Toblach, it was the Swede Lina Korsgren who was able to break away from the rest of the field and take victory. Her compatriot Ida Dahl followed in second place. The Norwegian Emilie Fleten took third place and thus completed the “Nordic” podium. Sara Pellegrini from Team Robinson was the best Italian in XNUMXth place. In the men's race, which started at 10.30:29 a.m., excitement was guaranteed until the end. A quintet fought for victory until the end. The Russian Ermil Vokuev tried to break away in the second round at the warrior cemetery, but the Scandinavian group led by Oskar Kardin reacted immediately. Kardin, Emil Persson, Morten Eide Pedersen, Stian Hoelgaard and Petter Eliassen stayed on. A heart-stopping final ultimately developed in the Nordic Arena. There was a finish sprint between four athletes. The Russian Vokuev prevailed against the Scandinavians in a real photo finish: Kardin, Persson and Eide Pedersen only had second, third and fourth places. The best Italian was Mauro Brigadoi from “Team Sottozero Trentino Team Zorzi Max” in XNUMXth place. French victories in skating, then the Italians in classic After the professional races of the Visma Ski Classics, it was finally the turn of the athletes in the freestyle race from 12.30 p.m. The classic race over 30 kilometers started about ten minutes later. The start and finish of these races were also in Toblach. In the skating, the Frenchman Thomas Chambellant secured victory thanks to a strong finish sprint. In the women's race, however, his compatriot Céline Chopard Lallier celebrated a commanding victory. While the freestyle race was dominated by the French, the Italians prevailed in the classic race. Lorenzo Cerutti (Team Robinson) won the men's race. Asia Patini from Team Robinson celebrated a clear win in the women's category. Team Robinson athlete Caterina Piller took second place, rounding off a perfect result for the Trentino team. At the end of the day of competition, race director Nathalie Santer drew a positive conclusion despite all the difficulties: “There was a lot to do: snow and, above all, the Corona safety measures.
