Toblach-Cortina: Winners come from Norway and the Czech Republic

This race was also the seventh stage of the Visma Skiclassics – The long distance ski championship racing series. Last year's winner Tord Asle Gjerdalen from Norway was able to win the race on the home straight again this year and relegated Peter Eliassen and Morten Eide Pedersen (both Norway) to second and third place. In the women's race, the Czech Katerina Smutnà won the race ahead of last year's winner Norgren Britta Johansson from Sweden and Astrid Oyre Slind from Norway.

A total of over 900 athletes from 28 nations took part on the first day of the anniversary edition of the Dobbiaco-Cortina cross-country skiing event. In addition to numerous top athletes from Norway, Sweden, Russia, the Czech Republic, Switzerland and many others, there were also hundreds of amateurs at the start who mastered the 50km route. The race started in Braies and continued to Niederdorf and Toblach to Fiames/Cortina.

In the men's category, the Norwegians won three times: Tord Asle Gjerdalen, Petter Eliassen and Morten Eide Pedersen. The three athletes were always in parallel in the race and it was only in the last few meters that Gjerdalen was able to prevail. Second place of honor went to Eliassen who was able to defend his place from last year and Morten Eide Pedersen came third. Mauro Brigadoi (Team Robinson Petshop trainer) was the best Italian in 11th place

The women also offered an exciting race. Smutnà Katerina (CZE) was able to clearly prevail in the last meters from Johansson Norgren, Britta (SWE) and Oyre Slind, Astrid (NOR). Chiara Caminada was the best Italian in 14th place.

The second race of the Dobbiaco-Cortina cross-country skiing event will take place on Sunday. The skating race starts at 10.00 a.m. in Fiames and runs over 30km to the Nordic Arena in Toblach.
