Tour de Ski: From Wednesday the world class is in Toblach

Seven stages in nine days and three countries are planned for this year's Tour de Ski. Since it got much colder after Christmas and a little snow fell, all stages can be held more or less unchanged. The conditions are also ideal in the Nordic Arena in Dobbiaco. On Wednesday, January 7th, a women's 5 km race and a men's 10 km race will be run in the classic style. The trails were prepared with artificial snow.

Circuit in the Nordic Arena replaces Cortina-Toblach The following day, due to a lack of snow, the traditional Cortina-Toblach pursuit race had to be canceled and replaced by a 25 km circuit in Toblach. The race takes place on a 5 kilometer loop, which the women have to complete three times and the men five times. There are time credits on both days of the competition: the winner receives 15 bonus seconds, the second ten and the third five. “We are looking forward to the next two days of racing as part of the Tour de Ski,” says Herbert Santer, President of Sport OK Toblach. “The Tour de Ski is an enormous advertising factor not only for Dobbiaco, but for the entire Alta Pusteria,” says Santer.

Top favorites come from Norway Based on how the season has gone so far, the Norwegians are of course the top favorites. In the men's race, Martin Johnsrud Sundby wants to defend his title from last year. In addition to his teammates, his biggest competitors are the Swiss Dario Cologna, the Swedes Marcus Hellner and Calle Halfvarsson, Alex Harvey from Canada and the Russian Alexander Legkov. South Tyrol is sending three men into the race: Dietmar Nöckler, David Hofer and Roland Clara. Italy will not be able to compete for the overall victory; Davos Sprint winner Federico Pellegrino certainly has the highest hopes of a day's success. For the women, an exciting duel can be expected between Marit Bjorgen and Therese Johaug. The Pole Justyna Kowalczyk, on the other hand, does not seem to be in top form this year, the Swede Charlotte Kalla is foregoing the tour in favor of the home World Cup.

Prize money and World Cup points A total of 560.000 Swiss francs in prize money will be paid out to both genders over the next nine days. That's the equivalent of around 466.000 euros. The winner of the tour receives around 75.000 euros, the second place 41.600 euros and the third place 25.000 euros. In addition, 5.000 euros will be paid out for men and women per stage. The winner of the Tour de Ski also receives 400 World Cup points for the overall victory. As usual, there are another 50 points for a day's victory, so that a total of a maximum of 750 World Cup points can be earned if you win all stages. The sprint is counted in the Sprint World Cup ranking, all other stages belong to the Distance World Cup.

Tour de Ski: From Wednesday the world class is in Toblach

Tomorrow we go. The Tour de Ski starts on Saturday in Oberstdorf with the traditional prologue and, after a stop in Müstair, will come to Toblach in the Alta Pusteria on Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th January.
