The 15th Tour de Ski has 10 day sections until January 8th. In addition to Val Müstair, races also take place in Toblach and Fiemme Valley. However, when the tour stops in Dobbiaco on Tuesday and Wednesday, no South Tyroleans will be at the start. Michael Hellweger from Sarn, who was the only South Tyrolean to be considered for the Azzurri's 14-man squad, will only take part in the freestyle sprint on New Year's Day. Hellweger wants to make it at least to the quarterfinals. The big goal this season is to reach the semi-finals for the first time. The qualification in Val Müstair is on the program tomorrow from 9.15 a.m., the finals start at 11.45 a.m. No spectators are allowed at any stage of the tour this time. While the Azzurro Federico Pellegrino is the big favorite in the sprint, overall victory in the Tour de Ski for men is only likely to come over the Russian defending champion Alexander Bolshunov. However, his compatriot Sergei Ustygov, who won the Tour in 2017, will not be at the start. He is not yet fully fit after recovering from the corona infection. Norway waived Norway, the cross-country skiing nation par excellence, will be missing from this tour. The Scandinavians justify their decision not to do so due to the fear of infection with the coronavirus and the associated quarantine and downtime. This means that superstar Johannes Kläbo, among others, will not be at the start. Norway, which had not already taken part in the World Cups in Davos and Dresden, had asked the world association Fis to reduce the number of stage locations in order to take part in the tour. This could not be fulfilled for contractual reasons, especially since the travel effort this year is very low. The tour entourage only covers around 330 kilometers between the start and destination. In the absence of the Norwegians, the Swedes Frida Karlsson and Ebba Andersson, as well as the Russian Natalia Nepryaeva are considered the favorites among the women.
