Tour de Ski in Dobbiaco: It starts tomorrow!

Justyna Kowalczyk from Poland and the Swiss Dario Cologna are the big hunts at the halfway point of the Tour de Ski. Kowalczyk won the most important stage race for cross-country skiers last year. This year too, the soon-to-be 28-year-old (Kowalcyzk celebrates her birthday on January 23rd) wants to climb to the highest step on the winner's podium. At halftime she leads 1.19,8:1.22,1 minutes ahead of Sweden's Charlotte Kalla and XNUMX:XNUMX minutes ahead of Marianna Longa from Tirano in the province of Sondrio.

In the men's race, the Swiss Dario Cologna is in the lead after four of eight races. Cologna came third last year, while two years ago he won both the Tour de Ski and the overall ranking. The 24-year-old from Müstair, which is just a few kilometers behind the border with South Tyrol, kept the Canadian Devon Kershaw (+45,9 seconds) and the Swede Marcus Hellner (+1.06,1 minutes) at bay.

The Tour de Ski continues on Wednesday after the first rest day. In Toblach, the sprint races over 1,3 kilometers take place in the Nordic Arena. The qualification begins at 12.15 p.m. and the finals two hours later. Missing from the women's category is overall World Cup leader Marit Björgen, who has won two of four sprint races so far this season. The third race was won by Arianna Follis, who is currently in sixth place in the Tour de Ski overall ranking. In the fourth sprint three days ago in Oberstdorf, Slovenia's Petra Majdic was ahead. She is currently in fourth place in the stage race.

Among the men, the Swede Emil Joensson would like to win the fourth sprint race “en suite”. Except for the first sprint in (Kuusamo), the 25-year-old sprint specialist from Bolängen was always at the top. Tour de Ski leader Cologna, who also leads the overall World Cup, can point to two third places in the sprint (Oberstdorf and Davos). Three South Tyroleans are also at the start: Roland Clara from Reischach, David Hofer from Val Gardena and Thomas Moriggl from Schlinig. .

Not only are the best cross-country skiers in the world currently present in Toblach, many celebrities from sports politics have also confirmed their attendance. Among others, the President of the National Olympic Committee (CONI) Gianni Petrucci and the President of the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) are present in Alta Pusteria.

The two competition days of the Tour de Ski in South Tyrol will begin on Tuesday. At 19 p.m. “The Fonzies” will perform in the marquee next to the Nordic Arena, and from 21 p.m. Dj Rudyru will warm up all partygoers. The supporting program on Wednesday includes a concert by country star George McAntony in the Nordic Arena from 10.30:17 a.m. In the afternoon the prize distribution for the Snowkidz video contest is on the program and in the evening the “Towau Brass” (XNUMX p.m.) and the well-known South Tyrolean group “Volxrock” will ensure the atmosphere.
