Tour de Ski: Norwegians dominate at will

Sundby, Northug, Toenseth and Roethe: Four Norwegians at the head of the field in the first distance race of the Tour de Ski in Lenzerheide. In the mass start over 30 kilometers in classic style, World Cup leader Martin Johnsrud Sundby was the dominant element and relegated his first pursuer Petter Jr. Northug to second place with a lead of 34,6 seconds. From a South Tyrolean perspective, the race didn't go quite as expected, but the trend is pointing upwards, especially for Roland Clara: after his 95th place in the sprint, the man from Reischach took 42nd place in the long distance and was thus able to ensure an improvement. Dietmar Nöckler, on the other hand, doesn't get going and didn't make it into the top 56 again with 50th place.

Johaug triumphs in the women's category, Agreiter 38th. After her weak sprint performance on Friday, Debora Agreiter was able to make up ground in the classic 15-kilometer mass start: Starting the race with start number 63, the woman from Val Badia finished her performance in 38th place. The Norwegian World Cup leader Therese Johaug won the women's race with a strong time of 41:26.4 minutes ahead of her compatriots Ingvild Flugstad Oestberg and Heidi Weng.

On January 8th things will also get down to business in Toblach The Tour de Ski remains in Lenzerheide for one more day. There will be a freestyle pursuit race tomorrow, with the men starting at 11.45am and the women at 13.20pm. The entourage then moves to Oberstdorf in Germany before the tour comes to Toblach for the seventh year in a row on Friday, January 8th. Men and women have a freestyle race ahead of them in Alta Pusteria.
