Tour de Ski: Pellegrino triumphs, South Tyrolean relegated

Federico Pellegrino is currently in the form of his life. The 25-year-old “Azzurro” won his sixth World Cup victory in Lenzerheide today, putting Pietro Piller Cottrer at the top of the ranking of the most successful Italian World Cup cross-country skiers. Pellegrino had already finished qualifying with the best time of the day. In the final run he first controlled Sergey Ustiugov's attack and then overtook the Russian in the finish. For Pellegrino it was the sixth victory in the last seven freestyle sprints that he has competed. In the World Cup discipline ranking he is now clearly leading with 282 points, 110 points ahead of the Norwegian Sondre Fossli, now twelfth and 154 points ahead of third-placed Finn Krogh. In the women's category, victory went to the Norwegian Maiken Caspersen Falla ahead of the Swede Ida Ingemarsdotter and her compatriot Ingvild Oestberg. The “Azzurre” Greta Laurent and Gaia Vuerich were eliminated in the quarterfinals. Today was not the day for the South Tyroleans, who all failed to qualify. Bruneck's Dietmar Nöckler finished 55th, more than nine seconds behind Pellegrino, who was fastest in qualifying, while Roland Clara from Reischach had to settle for 95th place. In the women's category, Debora Agreiter from Val Badia didn't get past 69th place.
