Tour de Ski: Pellegrino loses out in the photo finish

Italy's cross-country skiing icon Federico Pellegrino started the pursuit over 2 kilometers in the classic technique in second place and immediately sought to catch up with the leader Johannes Klaebo (NOR). The Norwegian ran a strong race and after 10 kilometers had a solid lead of around 5 seconds over the chasing group with Pellegrino. In the finish sprint there was a thrilling duel between the Italian and the Norwegian Paal Goldberg, who started 9th. The finish photo was the decisive factor, Goldberg completed the double victory for Norway. For Pellegrino it was at least his second podium finish within 2 hours, after second place in the sprint on New Year's Eve. The Klaebo/Pellegrino/Goldberg trio also leads the overall Tour standings in that order. Dietmar Nöckler also had reason to be happy on New Year's Day. The man from Bruneck finished 28th and thus scored World Cup points. Norway also wins among women The women's hunting race is shaping up to be the (expected) highlight for the Norwegians. The World Cup leader Tiril Udnes Weng started 4th, overtook, among others, the Swiss sprint winner Nadine Fähndrich in her first success of the season and kept Kerttu Niskanen (FIN) and Frida Karlsson (SWE) in check in the finish sprint. The biggest leap forward was made by her Norwegian compatriot and cousin Heidi Weng, who stormed up from 1st to 51th place. Best Azzurra is Caterina Ganz in 8th place. In the overall standings of the tour, Weng, Niskanen and Karlsson are in the lead at the same time after 2 of 7 races. To Oberstdorf (GER) on the 3rd-4th. Tour de Ski: Pellegrino loses out in the photo finish

The first stage of the Tour de Ski for cross-country skiers came to an end on New Year's Day in Val Müstair/Münstertal in Switzerland. In the pursuit, Norway celebrated a double victory in the men's race, and Norway also won the women's race.
