Tour de Ski: Roland Clara holds his own

The 27-year-old Finn lost a lot of time over the 10 kilometers in classic style, but moved up to first place with a rapid race to catch up after changing skis. He even left the exceptional Swiss athlete Dario Cologna behind. With second place, however, he was able to extend his lead in the overall ranking of the Tour de Ski. Third place went to the Czech Martin Jaks.

Roland Clara crossed the finish line 11,8 seconds behind Heikkinen. He placed 13th and was the best “Azzurro”. The 28-year-old from Reischach delivered a strong performance in the freestyle and relegated his compatriot Giorgio di Centa to 14th place. Thomas Moriggl from Vinschger was also able to attract attention, crossing the finish line in 26th place. The third South Tyrolean in the group, David Hofer, took 36th place.

In the overall ranking, Clara was able to move up to 19th place with a respectable success in the pursuit race. He is 2:23.3 minutes behind Cologna. David Hofer (33rd) and Thomas Moriggl (36th) have a longer time gap.

Swedish double success in the women's race

In the women's race (5 km classic style and 5 km freestyle), Sweden celebrated a double victory. Anna Haag won the sprint ahead of her compatriot Charlotte Kalla. The Norwegian Kristoffersen came third, seven seconds behind, ahead of Arianna Follis. Fifth place went to overall leader Justyna Kowalczyk ahead of Marianna Longa, who was still ahead after the first change.

In the overall ranking, Longa climbs onto the podium again. The Italian has overtaken Petra Majdic and Aino-Kaisa Saarinen, who had a terrible day, and is now third behind Kowalczyk and Charlotte Kalla. The Swede is two seconds ahead of the “Azzurra”. Arianna Follis is sixth.

After a rest day on Tuesday, the tour moves to Italy. On Wednesday there will be a freestyle sprint race in Toblach, on Thursday the men will run from Cortina to Toblach (35 km), while the women will run a 15 km race in Alta Pusteria.

Tour de Ski: Roland Clara holds his own

With a sense of achievement behind him, Roland Clara will tackle the Tour de Ski stage in Toblach. In the pursuit race in Oberstdorf, the Reischacher did more than respectably in 13th place. Matti Heikkinen took the win.
