Back in the squad: Miriam Neureuther before her comeback

The 27-year-old wife of alpine star Felix Neureuther, who gave birth to their daughter Matilda in October 2017, is again listed in the supplementary squad, the third highest category within the association, in the team list published by the German Ski Association (DSV) on Tuesday.

Neureuther, who won three races in the Biathlon World Cup under her maiden name Gössner, was a strong athlete and had repeatedly given guest appearances to the cross-country ski trail specialists. At the 2010 Olympics she won silver with the cross-country skiing relay and celebrated her greatest career success; at the 2013 World Championships she narrowly missed out on a medal in the 10 km freestyle in fourth place.

Before her pregnancy, Neureuther had struggled with poor form in biathlon for several winters, also as a result of a fall during cycling training that cost her her entry into the 2014 Olympics. Neureuther had ruled out a comeback in biathlon. "If so, then only in cross-country skiing. You have to shoot 0/0 in biathlon these days, and that's no longer possible for me. I've never been the best shooter. And I've always enjoyed cross-country skiing," she said in January.

As expected, Miriam Neureuther's husband Felix will be back in the Alpine Olympic squad after his cruciate ligament tear, which cost him the start at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. The same applies to former world champion Severin Freund, who was also injured for a long time (second cruciate ligament tear), among the ski jumpers.
