Markus Ortler is the new South Tyrolean FISI President

The former national coach of the Alpine women's ski team narrowly beat his competitor Helmuth Senfter in the election in the Pastoral Center in Bolzano on Saturday evening with 8.965 against 8.066 votes. Ortler received 52,54% of the votes, the Innich entrepreneur 47,27%.

“I am pleased that so many clubs came to the polls and that they have placed their trust in me and my committee. I have been in the regional association for over ten years and, as promised, I will continue the very successful work I have done so far, of course with some innovations,” promised Ortler after his election. He also thanked Helmuth Senfter, “a fair opponent in this exciting election campaign, who we hope will remain with us for winter sports in the future.” Markus Ortler will succeed Hermann Ambach from Kalter as president and will remain in office for three years, until 2022.

The national FISI president Flavio Roda and his board members Dalpez, Longo and Thoma also came to Bolzano. Also present were the South Tyrolean CONI boss Heiz Gutweniger and the former state presidents Helmuth Adams and Richard Weißensteiner. Commissioner Vittorio Menghini presided over the general assembly as president.

The interest was huge.

A total of 109 of our country's 112 winter sports clubs were present, over 99% of those eligible to vote. Ortler can also count on the support of a strong committee in the future, because seven of the ten elected board members ran on his list and ended up at the top of the preferred votes: Leander Moroder and Christian Polig (the most elected committee members with over 7.000 votes), Giorgio Giovanelli, Walter Eberhöfer, Roland Unterleitner, athlete representative Monika Santa and trainer Isabella Filippi Braunhofer. From Team Senfter, however, only Lidia Bernardi, Alexander Zöschg and athlete representative Werner Heel made it to the state board. Markus Ortler is the new South Tyrolean FISI President
