Medalists immortalize themselves in the “Valley of Champions”

In the run-up to the Biathlon World Cup in Antholz next weekend, the sports stars from the community of Rasen/Antholz met for the ceremonial inauguration of the “Valley of Champions”. The access to the fitness area in the Dolomit Family Hotel Garberhof was redesigned for the hotel's 10th anniversary and dedicated to the Olympic and World Cup medalists.

Around 40 years of top sport were present: Christian Oberstolz (artistic track tobogganing), Thomas Prugger (snowboard), Roel Paulissen (mountain bike), Wilfried Pallhuber (biathlon), Hubert Pallhuber (mountain bike), Johann Passler (biathlon), Gerhard Plankensteiner (artistic track tobogganing), Gottlieb Taschler (biathlon), Dominik Windisch (biathlon), Dorothea Wierer (biathlon), and Andreas Zingerele (biathlon). The unforgettable Hubert Leitgeb (biathlon) also found his place in the newly designed “Valley of Champions”.

“The route in the Antholz Biathlon Center has also been redesigned and is new this year. They are very demanding, new sections. This doesn't make it any easier for us biathletes, but it certainly makes it even more exciting for the audience," said Dorothea Wierer before the home World Cup. For the first time in her career, Wierer is running in front of her home crowd as the leader of the overall World Cup.

Her teammate Dominik Windisch is also enthusiastic about the redesign of the cross-country ski trail: “It looks extremely tough. But fortunately it’s the same for everyone.” Windisch is currently struggling with his form; the two-time Olympic medalist from PyeongChang 2018 is making too many mistakes, especially in the standing shooting. “I've had that before too. I'm a bit puzzled at the moment, but I'm sure I'll get it under control again," says Windisch optimistically.

Medalists immortalize themselves in the “Valley of Champions”

Eleven Olympic and World Cup medalists from the community of Rasen Antholz gathered on Tuesday evening at the Hotel Garberhof in Niederrasen. Together, the former and active top athletes have 15 Olympic medals and 46 World Cup medals.
