WADA successfully completes processing of doping data from Moscow laboratory

Moscow (SID) Inspectors from the World Anti-Doping Agency WADA have successfully completed processing data from the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) in the Moscow control laboratory. WADA announced this on Thursday evening. A week ago, WADA inspectors were given access to the data on a second attempt, but processing took four days longer than initially planned due to the large volumes and particular complexity of the data. "This is an important breakthrough for clean sport. It shows that we continue to make real progress that simply would not have happened without the WADA Executive's decision on September 20," said WADA President Craig Reedie. Last September, the WADA executive decided to reinstate the suspension of the Russian anti-doping agency RUSADA after three years "under strict conditions." The original condition for this was the release of the data collection and access to the control laboratory by December 31, 2018. In the next step, the collected data from the Moscow laboratory will now be authenticated and checked to ensure that it is complete and has not been falsified. The WADA executive wants to be informed by the independent WADA control committee CRC about the assessment of the data finds and make a decision on possible sanctions on January 22nd. Despite the delay, WADA is still sticking to this point. The LIMS data set is fundamental in solving the Russian doping scandal. This includes all doping test data between January 2012 and August 2015, during which time positive tests are said to have been systematically covered up. The data should enable individual proceedings against Russian athletes.
