Neureuther before TV debut: “Get the most out of it”

The 35-year-old knows all of this - and yet the 2019 edition is very special for Neureuther. For the first time in Sölden he is no longer the ski athlete, but the TV expert. And that's new.

“I tried to get the most out of it as a competitive athlete, and I’m trying to do the same with television now,” said Neureuther German press agency before the debut on ARD -Microphone. So he went to Sölden in the last few days, strapped on his skis after a break of about five months and tested what it was like with a camera.

Because the new task, in which he accompanies women's and men's races, is important to the father of the family. In recent years he has often expressed criticism more or less clearly ARD and ZDF . “What I couldn't stand was when I noticed that someone wasn't passionate about it. That won’t happen for me,” said the most successful German ski racer in World Cup history with 13 victories.

He also believes that the former slalom and giant slalom skier Neureuther will be able to provide competent analyzes of downhill races over the course of the season. “Felix has had so many successes, so much experience. If you can take anyone seriously, it’s him.”

The son of Rosi Mittermaier and Christian Neureuther already knows for sure what question no athlete should fear from him: “How did your parents react?”

Neureuther was active in the World Cup for 16 years, was on the podium 248 times in 47 races and, after silver at the 2013 World Championships in Schladming, won World Cup bronze twice in his best discipline, slalom. After years of many physical problems, the fan favorite was in better shape than ever before in autumn 2017 - but then tore his cruciate ligament during training. In the last World Cup winter he dared to make a comeback, but was no longer able to reach his usual level and ended his career in March.
