Strong as a bear: Samuel Costa with a podium double

Who the day before Costa was also in brilliant shape in the second World Cup competition in Tyrol. After placing third in ski jumping, his flagship discipline, he also held his own on the cross-country ski trail and ultimately made it onto the podium in third place. He kept Austrian local hero Bernhard Gruber at bay and achieved his second top-three finish within 3 hours. After the 24 kilometers of cross-country skiing, the Wolkensteiner crossed the finish line 10 seconds behind.

In the last few hundred meters, Costa only had to admit defeat to the exceptional Germans Johannes Rydzek and Eric Frenzel. As on Friday, Rydzek put the overall World Cup leader Frenzel in his place in the finish sprint.

The race didn't go as planned for the other Azzurri: Olympic medalist Alessandro Pittin came 31st, while the two Val Gardena residents Lukas Runggaldier and Armin Bauer had to settle for 40th and 44th place.

On Sunday the “Seefeld Triple” will conclude with another individual competition. Here Costa will try to defend his third place in the overall ranking. He is the only athlete from the Italian team to qualify for the final race.
