Sensationalist Lukas Runggaldier misses the podium

The 24-year-old from St. Christina was able to improve further after finishing sixth on Saturday and narrowly missed making it onto the podium in the second competition. After finishing seventh in ski jumping, he sprinted to the top places in cross-country skiing and only had to admit defeat to his competitors on the home straight. With fourth place, he achieved the best result of his career so far. In the last seven races, Runggaldier has always been able to place among the top 24 athletes.

A fact that not only satisfies the native of Val Gardena himself, but also cross-country skiing coach Giuseppe Chenetti: “What Runggaldier is doing at the moment is extraordinary. The whole team is on the rise.” By this he also means Armin Bauer, who came in 43rd but was not able to quite match his performance from the day before.

Victory in Seefeld was secured by Norwegian Magnus Moan, who relegated World Cup leader Jason Lamy Chappuis to second place. North Tyrolean David Kreiner crossed the finish line one second ahead of Lukas Runggaldier.
