When a well-intentioned piece of advice ruins an entire season

Like in hardly any other sport, body weight plays such a big role as in Nordic Combined. Those who are lighter fly further and run faster. Or not?

Aaron Kostner is only 22 years old, but can already look back on a turbulent career. At the age of 19, the Nordic combined athlete collected his first World Cup points in Lahti, and in 2019 he took a strong 13th place at the World Championships in Seefeld. This season things aren't going well for the people of Val Gardena. What's behind it?

Very few trainers are trained in sports medicine; they are mostly former (top) athletes who certainly have some experience and have learned something, but for certain questions that is no longer enough. The athlete himself would know best, but few have the insight. Light flies better, but losing weight also means muscle loss, disruption of existing balances and loss of body awareness. So, dear athletes: every piece of advice must be carefully considered. You cannot draw 1:1 conclusions from one athlete to another. This also applies to alpine sports; a Krisperl cannot ride like Alberto Tomba.
