ÖSV President: Signs on Walchhofer are becoming clearer

This was reportedly decided at another informal meeting last Monday. Details still need to be clarified, but the former downhill world champion from Salzburg could be announced as the only candidate as early as next Tuesday.

Walchhofer himself spoke in an interview with the ORF -Radio station Ö3 on Wednesday about “positive signals from the regional association presidents” to him, but also about details that are still open. Walchhofer expressly welcomes the fact that Renate Götschl - the also former downhill world champion herself announced her candidacy for the presidency a few weeks ago - will be appointed to him as first vice-president. “You could only wish for a personality like Renate Götschl in the ski association,” said the 46-year-old hotelier from Zauchensee. Walchhofer commented that ultimately it is primarily about filling the most important position and the responsibilities in the capital companies and the new holding company of the ski association: “I have always made it clear that the managing director and the president of course have full economic responsibility “We must have responsibility for the entire association.” But he is also convinced that an agreement will be reached. “I’m confident about that.”

He assumes or hopes that everything will be clarified by the beginning of next week, said Walchhofer on Ö3. The new president of the successful Austrian Ski Association - the 79-year-old Schröcksnadel is no longer running after 31 years in office - will be officially presented at the country conference on June 19th in Carinthia.

With regard to the successor to Peter Schröcksnadel as ÖSV President, the election committee made up of the heads of the state ski associations has now apparently agreed on Michael Walchhofer.
