Rabenstein in the focus of the ice climbing world

The small mountain farming town of Rabenstein has 230 inhabitants. It's understandable that the Ice Climbing World Cup with 100 athletes and 2000 spectators is a special challenge every year. Now we're used to the crowds in Rabenstein. The world's best ice climbers are visiting the Passeier Valley for the sixth time this year.

Angelika Rainer is not there

The South Tyrolean ice climbing queen and three-time world champion, Angelika Rainer, will not be there this year. Bitter for the South Tyrolean fans who have to make do without their local hero this year. Otherwise, many top stars from the ice climbing scene are there. The Russian team, led by the brothers Maxim and Alexey Tomilov and Maria Tolokonina, can be rated as strong. Last year's winner, HanNaRai Song from South Korea, is also there and is one of the favorites.

Highlight on Saturday evening

It starts on Friday morning on the artificial ice climbing facility, which is considered the most difficult in Europe. The qualification in difficult climbing begins at 10 a.m., after which the winners in speed climbing will be determined. The highlight, the finals in difficult climbing, is on the program on Saturday evening from 18 p.m. Under floodlights, the winner has to master the many overhangs (up to 72 degrees incline) and cross passages.

Finally, there is an exhibition competition on Saturday evening in which the top athletes try to break the speed record to the top of the 25 meter high ice tower.
