Armin Zöggeler: with track record to overall World Cup victory!

The 37-year-old from Völlan has drawn level with North Tyrolean Markus Prock, who also has ten overall World Cup victories to his name. This is already the sixth crystal ball in a row for the almost unbeatable world champion. In Sigulda, Zöggeler not only secured his 54th success in the World Cup, but also shattered the track record in an impressive manner: with a time of 48,490, he already demonstrated his supremacy in the first round . In the second race he finally took victory. The Burggräfler was able to throw himself down the ice channel without any pressure, especially since his long-term German rival in the World Cup Felix Loch only took 14th place due to a botched first run.

“This crystal ball means a lot to me, as it is becoming increasingly difficult to assert yourself against the young competition,” explains Armin Zöggeler, who adds: “This season, however, I had luck on my side. For example, at the World Championships in Cesana when I narrowly won the hundredths thriller.”

Russian veteran Albert Demchenko secured second place, 291 hundredths behind. Latvian local hero Martins Rubenis made it to third place.

Dominik Filehner also left his mark on the World Cup final in Latvia, which was memorable from a South Tyrolean perspective. One day before his 18th birthday, the Mühlbacher showed off all his talent and took fifth place. David Mair and Reinhold Rainer, however, took eighth and ninth place, while Kevin Fischnelller was ranked 32nd after a major mistake in the first run.
