The 19-year-old, eleventh at the World Championships in Altenberg 2012, has set off overseas, where he will take part in the international training week for the Junior World Championships together with Andrea Vötter, Sandra Robatscher, Kevin Fiwickeler, Simon Kainzwaldner, Florian Gurber and Emanuel Rieder on January 15th and 16th in Park City, Utah. Last year, the decisions for men and women in the ice track in Oberhof, built in 1970, were a purely German affair: Felix Loch, David Möller and Andi Langenhan were on the men's podium - Natalie Geisenberger, Tatjana Hüfner and Anke Wischnewski on the women's podium. Only in doubles did the Austrians Andreas and Wolfgang Linger place third behind the German duos Eggert/Benecken and Wendl/Arlt.

Oberhof is also the venue for the 44th European Championships

In addition to the sixth World Cup stop of the season, Oberhof is a guest participant at the FIL European Championships for the fourth time this year. The continental titles had previously been awarded in Thuringia in 1979, 1998 and 2004.

Andi Langenhan (GER), Tatiana Ivanova (RUS), the Austrians Peter Penz/Georg Fischler and the Russian team around Ivanova, Albert Demchenko and Vladislav Yuzhakov/Vladimir Makhnutin will be at the start as defending European Championship champions. The team relay in Oberhof does not count towards the World Cup.

Armin Zöggeler, meanwhile, won his seventh European Championship medal as vice-European champion at the recent continental title fights in Paramonovo. The Italian team also impressed with third place in the relay behind Russia and Germany. In the end, the South Tyrolean quartet Gasparini, Zöggeler and Oberstolz/Gruber were only a hundredth apart from the runners-up.
