Dominik Filehner takes bronze at the World Championships

Dominik Filehner has once again impressively proven that the ice channel near Innsbruck is one of his absolute favorite routes. There, where the 24-year-old from Mühlbach celebrated his first World Cup victory in 2015, he once again managed to make it onto the podium.

After an outstanding qualifying time, Fiwickeler only had to admit defeat in the World Cup sprint to the Austrian surprise winner Wolfgang Kindl and the Russian Roman Repilov. This is the first World Cup podium for Italy's national luge team since 2012, when Armin Zöggeler won bronze in the classic distance.

"Like in my own garden"

"Here I feel like I'm in my own garden. I've been training on this slope since I was a little child," explained Filehner after the race. He added: "With this medal I have broken the ice. I hope there will be more Italian top 3 placements here in Igls"

In addition to Dominik Filehner, another South Tyrolean, Theo Gruber, was able to impress in the men's sprint. He finished seventh, while Kevin Fiwickeler finished ninth.

Meanwhile, in the women's category, the American Erin Hamlin was crowned the new world champion. Here Andrea Vötter took 14th place.

In the doubles competition, only the experienced Christian Oberstolz and Patrick Gruber made it to the final. They took sixth place in the decision. The two other South Tyrolean duos Rieder/Rastner and Gruber/Kainzwaldner already failed in the qualification. Gold in the doubles went to the German long-term winners Wendl/Arlt.

Dominik Filehner takes bronze at the World Championships

First day of racing, first precious metal for South Tyrol: Dominik Filehner made it to the podium in the sprint competition at the start of the Toboggan World Championships in Igls! He took third place.
