Dominik Filehner cannot be beaten in Igls - UPDATE

Third two years ago, second last year, now in first place – Dominik Fischnelller has improved from season to season in Igls and reached the highest step of the podium on Sunday. In a very exciting race, the 22-year-old ended up six thousandths ahead of the North Tyrolean local hero Armin Frauscher in 1:40.687 minutes and secured his second success in the highest racing series for artificial track luge, a good two years after his first World Cup victory in Lillehammer. The Austrian Wolfgang Kindl completed the podium in third place. Fischnitzer benefited from the disqualification of the German Felix Loch, who, as the leader, was taken out of the rankings after the first round due to a sled that was too heavy and was unable to intervene in the decision. The man from Merans, who was in second place just behind Loch in the first run, moved up to first place and did not relinquish his lead in the second run. Overall, Fischler's victory today was the 91st South Tyrolean success in the Toboggan World Cup.

"Maintain this level throughout the season" After his eleventh World Cup podium, the 22-year-old was overjoyed: "I couldn't imagine a better start to the season. My World Cup victory was a while ago, so it was a big goal of mine to get back to first place. Now I have to see to maintain this level for an entire season, because Felix Loch will be even more motivated in the coming races."

Two more South Tyroleans in the top 20 Two other South Tyroleans, Theo Gruber and Emanuel Rieder, were at the start in Igls. While the 19-year-old Gruber came in 17th, Rieder finished the race in 18th place. The Luge World Cup will continue next weekend in Lake Placid, USA. A total of nine season races are on the program.
