Fischlerler trumps in the “Water Battle” in Winterberg

While the track was still suitable for competition in the first run due to persistent rain, the ice broke completely a few hours later and turned the second run into a pure water fight. So it was no coincidence that Stepan Fedorov took victory in 26th place in the first round. Half-time leader David Gleirscher, however, ended up in 19th place. The German toboggan association lodged a protest immediately, but it was rejected. So in the end the result was evaluated as normal.

Behind the surprising winner from Russia, the American Chris Mazdzer took second place, followed by Dominik Filehner. Italy's best luger also benefited from the weather conditions and raced from 25th to 3rd place with a rapid ride. He thus repeated his result from two weeks ago in Sochi. At the end of the World Cup, Filehner finished sixth overall. “This is an extremely happy third place for me, which more or less fell into my lap,” said Firiegeller after the race. The other South Tyroleans also all scored World Cup points: Kevin Fiwickeler came twelfth and was therefore right in front of the strong Theo Gruber in the rankings. Emanuel Rieder took 16th place.

Placed seventh in the team relay

Despite the controversial competition conditions, the 2015/16 World Cup season was completed as planned with the team relay in the afternoon. Here Canada came out ahead of Russia and Austria. Sandra Robatscher, Dominik Filehner and the doubles Rieder/Rastner finished the last race of this winter in seventh place.

Heavy rain and gusts of wind completely turned the final World Cup stage in Sauerland, Germany, upside down. Whoever was at the back in the first round suddenly had the best chance of winning in the decision. Dominik Filehner took advantage of this to catapult himself onto the podium.
