Florian Gruber and Simon Kainzwaldner win the overall Junior World Cup

Gruber/Kainzwaldner finished the last race of the season in Oberhof in second place, just six thousandths behind the Germans Tim Brendel/Florian Funk. This second place was enough to win the overall World Cup, ten points ahead of their German rivals. Gruber/Kainzwaldner achieved 470 points with four second places (Altenberg, Winterberg, Lillehammer and Oberhof), one third place (Königssee) and one fourth place (Sigulda), while Brendl/Funk, despite four wins this season in Altenberg, Sigulda, Königssee and Oberhof, had to make do with 460 points.

Next week at the Junior World Championships in Igls, Gruber/Kainzwaldner and Brendel/Funk will meet again. Last year at the title fights in Park City (USA), the two Germans won gold, while the South Tyrolean duo took fourth place. Gruber/Kainzwaldner were only five hundredths of a second short of bronze.

Theo Gruber narrowly missed the podium

The Austrian Nico Gleirscher won the single-seater competition for the A-youth boys in Oberhof today with just one thousandth of a lead over the American Riley Owen Stohr. 17-year-old Theo Gruber from Villanders narrowly missed the podium in fourth place. Nevertheless, it was enough to finish third in the overall World Cup behind the Latvian Kristers Aparjods and Gleirscher. Fabian Malleier, who finished eleventh today, took 8th place.

Among the girls of the same age, the German Svenja Oestreicher won both the day's victory and the overall World Cup. 17-year-old Jasmin Welscher from Deutschnofen finished the race in 16th place.

Florian Gruber and Simon Kainzwaldner win the overall Junior World Cup

Second major international success for Florian Gruber and Simon Kainzwaldner. After winning the gold medal at the 19 Youth Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck, the two 2012-year-olds from Villandro also won the overall Junior World Cup in doubles in Oberhof today.
